Productivity
- Firefox [macOS + iOS] — I've tried using Safari but I always come back to Firefox
- Fantastical [macOS + iOS] — A better calendar app
- Things [macOS + iOS] — There are probably better todo list apps out there but this does everything I need, plus it was one of the first apps I ever purchased from the iPhone App Store.
- Obsidian [macOS + iOS] — I recently started using this for notes. Not sold yet.
- Apple Mail [macOS + iOS] — It's fine
- 1Password [macOS + iOS] — The OG password manager
- Tor Browser [macOS] — For when I'm feeling sneaky
- NetNewsWire [macOS + iOS] — Super, reliable RSS reader
- Signal [macOS + iOS] — I use it to talk to non-iMessage friends
- Proton Drive, VPN, and Mail [macOS + iOS] — I use Drive for more sensitive things that I don't want on iCloud. VPN for when I need a VPN. I don't really use Mail but I really like the idea of encrypted email.
Media
- Plex [iOS + TV OS] — a media server for personal movies and TV shows
- Roon [macOS + iOS] — a music streaming server kind of like Plex
- TIDAL [macOS + iOS] — I recently stopped using Apple Music and started using TIDAL because it is built-in to Roon
- Sleeve [macOS] — Shows me what song is currently playing on my desktop. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with TIDAL or Roon
Utilities

- Drafts [macOS + iOS]
- XLD [macOS] — used to create my FLACs
- MusicBrainz Picard [macOS] — helps manage music metadata
- VLC [macOS]
- Bartender [macOS] — I'll be happy when Apple "sherlocks" these kind of apps
- Tailscale [macOS + iOS] — a private VPN service that I use to access all of my servers when I'm not at home.
- Syncthing [macOS]
- Backblaze [macOS] — an affordable whole computer cloud backup service with unlimited storage. Has come in handy when I need to get a file off my parent's computers.
